About this course

Free Level 3 Sport Course in Langley. Classes run at The Langley Academy, full-time during the day.

This Pearson Edexcel BTEC covers sport science, coaching, fitness, and physical performance. You'll study anatomy and physiology, sports psychology, nutrition, and how to plan and lead sporting activities. The course takes two years to complete.

You'll finish with a BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport.

Who this course is for

This course is for students who want to continue studying biology after GCSE. You'll already be familiar with some of the topics but the A level will give you the chance to study these and some new ones, in much greater depth. You might be choosing biology because you're headed for a healthcare or scientific career, though it will give you a set of skills that can be used in a wide range of non-scientific careers too. This course links well with most other A level subjects but particularly with those such as Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Geography and Psychology.

What you will learn

  • You'll study anatomy and physiology and how the body responds to exercise.
  • You'll learn the principles of sports coaching and how to apply them.
  • You'll explore sports psychology and how the mind affects performance.
  • You'll develop knowledge of nutrition and its role in sport and fitness.
  • You'll learn how to plan, deliver, and evaluate physical activity sessions.
  • You'll study fitness testing methods and how to analyse results.
  • You'll gain an understanding of the sports industry and career pathways within it.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom lessons, practical sessions, and coursework assignments. Assessment is mainly through internally assessed units, with some externally assessed exams set by Pearson Edexcel. You'll build a portfolio of work across the two years. Practical activities and group projects are a core part of how the course is taught.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. The Langley Academy will confirm anything else you need before you start.
