This course is for those who are volunteering or working in an educational establishment (classroom based), and require a qualification to reflect skills and knowledge.

This qualification will enable you to work with children and young people aged 4-19 yrs.

Topics covered include child development; safeguarding; promoting positive behaviour; supporting a range of learners; planning and delivering activities on a one to one basis and with a small group; assessment of learning; and promoting resilience.

This course requires you to be in a work placement for a minimum of 2 days per week and on average, 5-6 hours self-study for research and written evidence over 18 months.

Entry requirements

Applicants will be expected to have a recognised level 2 subject specific vocational qualification. ; If not already achieved, be working towards completing a level 2 literacy qualification. (or) Several years' occupational experience within relevant disciplines will also be considered

How you will learn

You'll attend daytime classes at Burton Town Centre Campus and complete a work placement in a school or educational setting for a minimum of two days per week. Expect around five to six hours of self-study per week for research and written evidence. Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence gathered in your placement setting, demonstrating your skills and knowledge in practice.

The centre will provide most materials. Burton Town Centre Campus will confirm anything else you need before you start. You will need to arrange or already be in a suitable school or educational placement for a minimum of two days per week throughout the 18 months.
