About this course

Level 3 Hairdressing for Colour Technicians Course in Cambridge. Classes run at Cambridge Regional College, full-time during the day. You'll need a Level 2 hairdressing qualification to apply, and entry is by interview. Most of your time is spent in a working salon, carrying out services on paying clients. You'll develop advanced colouring, cutting, and styling skills across a wide range of clients. The course takes one year.

Who this course is for

If you have completed a full level 2 qualification in Hairdressing this course will enable you to progress to a salon Stylist upon completion. Most of your time will be spent in one of our commercial salons where you will be carrying out services on paying clients for the purposes of skills development and assessments. Client work is an essential part of the course and you can expect to be working on a wide and diverse clientele, the assessment criteria includes units for advanced cutting, styling, creative and corrective colouring.

You will have the opportunity to enter competitions, listen to guest speakers and go on trips to hair and beauty exhibitions.

You will also be required to study and achieve further qualifications in English and Maths to assist in your personal development if not previously attained at Grade 3 or above.

Your interview and the college Welcome events, will give us the opportunity to get to know you better and ensure you have a clear understanding of the career path and course and ensure that you enrol on the right level to suit your needs.

If successful in gaining a place you will be required to attend Taster Days during the summer before the start of your course. You will also carry out a practical aptitude test.

Kit and Uniform - You will need to purchase a kit and uniform before the start of the programme, the Level 3 mandatory kit and uniform will cost around GBP250 subject to change slightly with inflation. There is also up to GBP100 of optional extra’s and further details will be given to you at the Welcome Event.

Work placement in the commercial environment is part of your course, which will see you working on fee paying clients. This helps you to develop real life working skills and employability

On this Level 3 programme you may also be required to take part in our Industry Placement Programme, which is set for 2 days in addition to your study programme from October until the end of June, totalling 315 hours.

Entry requirements

Entry onto this programme will require a prior Level 2 hairdressing qualification, and will be based on a successful interview and assessment of your commitment and ability to meet the demands of the course the expectations of employers in the industry, including good attendance and punctuality.
