About this course

Level 2 Women's and Men's Hairdressing Course in Cambridge. Classes run at Cambridge Regional College, full-time during the day, over one year. Entry requires 3 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including English and Maths, plus a skills check, or a completed Level 1 Hairdressing Diploma. The women's and men's hairdressing classes cover client consultation, cutting, colouring, styling, and salon skills for both women's and men's hair. This level 2 women's and men's hairdressing qualification is a step toward the Level 3 Diploma you'll need to work as a fully qualified hairdresser.

Who this course is for

If you are progressing from the Level 1 course in Hairdressing and Beauty or looking to start a career in Hairdressing this is the course for you. Upon completion of the Level 2 in hairdressing you will be required to progress to the Level 3 in Hairdressing before you will be a fully qualified Hairdresser.

- Client Consultation and promoting products and services - Shampooing and Conditioning the hair and scalp - Cutting and finishing Women's and Men's Hair - Setting and Blow-drying using a range of techniques - Curling and Straightening techniques - Dressing Hair using plaiting and twisting techniques

Alongside your qualification you will study or further develop your English and Maths skills to assist in your career and personal development and have the opportunity to enter competitions, listen to guest speakers and join trips to hair and beauty exhibitions.

Your interview and the college Welcome events, will give us the opportunity to get to know you better and ensure you have a clear understanding of the career path and course and ensure that you enrol on the right level to suit your needs.

If successful in gaining a place you will be required to attend Taster Days during the summer before the start of your course. You will also carry out a practical aptitude test.

Kit and Uniform - You will need to purchase a kit and uniform before the start of the programme, the Level 2 mandatory kit and uniform will cost around GBP450 subject to change slightly with inflation. There is also up to GBP100 of optional extra’s and further details will be given to you at the Welcome Event.

Work placement in the commercial environment is part of your course, which helps you to develop real life working skills and employability.

You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in a salon environment alongside classroom study. Assessment combines practical observations, where an assessor watches you carry out services on clients, with written or online knowledge tests. You'll build a portfolio of evidence as you progress through the course.
