The course covers leadership, citizenship, politics, law, and health and lifestyle. You'll take part in residential visits and hear from guest speakers across the armed forces and emergency services. The course runs over two years and includes hands-on activities that build your understanding of working in public services.

You'll finish with an NCFE Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services at Level 3.

Who this course is for

You will gain a solid understanding of the skills and demands required for a career in the public services, learning about a range of subjects such as leadership, health and lifestyle, citizenship, politics and law.

You will have the opportunity to take part in activities which will enhance your understanding of a career in the industry; for example, opportunities to go on residential visits to develop team work and leadership skills, or listening to a range of guest speakers from the Army, Navy and the Police during your studies.

Students who study this course may choose to progress to the HND in Public Services or choose to enter employment. Some of our students are Special Police Constables whilst studying, giving them excellent experience and a good foundation for a career in the Police.

Entry requirements

You will need:

Minimum Merit grade in Level 2 BTEC Public Services and a successful interview. 4 GCSE s Grade 9-4 (A-C) including maths or English at grade 4 (C) and the other at grade 3 (D).

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions, practical activities, and residential visits. Guest speakers from the armed forces and public services contribute to your learning. Assessment is through coursework and practical tasks completed over the two years of the course.
