About this course

Free Level 3 Business Course in Saint Helens. Classes run at Carmel College, full-time over two years. The course is free for 16 to 18 year olds.

You'll study eight units covering marketing, personal and business finance, event management, international business, and principles of management. Assessment is split equally between coursework and external exams. In your first year you'll also complete a one-week work placement to gain hands-on experience.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Diploma in Business.

Who this course is for

BTEC Diploma Business course gives every learner the opportunity to develop a real understanding of what is involved, both theoretically and practically, in becoming an effective business professional. We try to give you a greater involvement with businesses, so more trips to businesses, more research of real businesses, a one-week work placement in the first year and a greater development of the personal skills you will need to succeed in the business world.

Entry requirements

Students should be aged 16 to 18 years old. You will need grade 4 in GCSE Maths and GCSE English Language.

How you will learn

The course is assessed through a mix of coursework and exams. Coursework makes up 50% of your grade and includes written reports and independent research. The remaining 50% comes from two external exams, sat in January. You'll also take part in practical activities such as market research, teamwork, and project management, as well as a one-week work placement in your first year.
