About this course

Free BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport Course in Runcorn. Classes run at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy, full-time over two years.

This Pearson Edexcel BTEC covers sport performance, anatomy and physiology, coaching, fitness training, and sports psychology. You study sport both practically and academically. The course carries the same weight as one A level, and you can take it alongside other Level 3 qualifications.

You'll need four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English. You'll finish with a Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport.

Who this course is for

If you are intending to pursue health, fitness or sports-related occupations in the future such as recreation management, sports development, coaching, instructing or teaching, this course is for you. It allows you to explore sport both as a performer and academically and gives you the opportunity to study a work related qualification alongside other level 3 courses such as A levels or other BTEC qualifications. The equivalent of 1 A level, it will also give you transferable skills such as teamwork, leadership and resilience that are useful for a variety of careers and higher education courses.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions, practical sport activities, and coursework assignments. Assessment is mainly through unit assignments marked by your tutors, with some externally assessed units set and marked by Pearson Edexcel. There are no written exams for every unit, but some units include a timed task or set task completed under supervised conditions.
