About this course

Free Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport Course in Wigan. Classes run at Deanery High School and Sixth Form College, full-time over two years.

The course covers four units across two years. In Year 1, you study anatomy and physiology, plus fitness testing. In Year 2, you move on to fitness training and programming, and professional development in the sports industry. The course is for 16 to 19 year olds who hold five or more GCSEs at grade 4 or better, including English Language or Maths.

This BTEC carries UCAS points equivalent to one A Level, supporting entry to university or work in sport and fitness. You'll finish with a Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of classroom study and assessed assignments. Two of the four units are assessed externally by Pearson Edexcel, with exams set and marked by the awarding body. The remaining units are assessed through coursework and assignments you complete at the centre. External assessment makes up 67% of the course.
