About this course

Free Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport in London. Classes run at London Nautical, City of London Academy, full-time over two years.

The course covers sport performance, anatomy and physiology, coaching, fitness training, and sports psychology. You study both the practical and academic sides of sport. It carries the same weight as one A level, and you can take it alongside other Level 3 qualifications.

You'll need five GCSEs at grades 9 to 4, including English and maths, to get a place. You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport.

Who this course is for

If you are intending to pursue health, fitness or sports-related occupations in the future such as recreation management, sports development, coaching, instructing or teaching, this course is for you. It allows you to explore sport both as a performer and academically and gives you the opportunity to study a work related qualification alongside other level 3 courses such as A levels or other BTEC qualifications. The equivalent of 1 A level, it will also give you transferable skills such as teamwork, leadership and resilience that are useful for a variety of careers and higher education courses.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions, practical sport sessions, and coursework assignments. Assessment is mainly through Pearson-set assignments completed over the course. Some units include external assessments set and marked by Pearson. You'll build a portfolio of work that shows your knowledge and practical skills across the two years.
