About this course

Free Level 3 Barbering Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train in your salon role, building on existing hairdressing skills while continuing to work with clients. The course is designed for established hairdressers with relevant prior experience or a Level 2 barbering qualification, working 30 or more hours a week in a salon. Your employer supports the training and releases you for theory sessions. The course typically takes one year.

Who this course is for

Established hairdressers who are operating a column of work and posses an NVQ Level 2/ Level 3 or equivalent, or who have significant salon experience working as a stylist. Applicants should also have a high level of commitment and enthusiasm to succeed within the industry and be able to take responsibility to oversee promotional or improvement strategies.

Entry requirements

This course is designed for established hairdressers with:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Barbering (or equivalent), or significant hairdressing experience/ skills
  • Salon working hours are 30+ hours.
  • Adequate access to clients

-Agreed ability to access the chosen units for assessment requirements.

-Employer commitment to support the delivery of the training programme and

release the learner for the theory aspects of the programme.

  • Commitment to purchase necessary tools and learning materials.

-Commitment to complete private study of 2 - 4 hours in learner’s own time.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop advanced barbering techniques including clipper work, scissor cutting, and razor work.
  • You'll learn to consult with clients and plan barbering services to meet their needs.
  • You'll practise beard and facial hair shaping and design.
  • You'll apply skin fade and graduated cutting techniques to a professional standard.
  • You'll understand scalp and hair conditions relevant to barbering services.
  • You'll manage your own client column and take responsibility for service quality.
  • You'll learn to promote barbering services and contribute to salon improvement.

How you will learn

You learn on the job, practising barbering skills directly with clients in your salon. Assessment includes practical observations in the workplace, where an assessor will watch you carry out barbering services. You'll also complete written or online theory assessments. Your employer supports your release for any off-site theory sessions. Evidence of your work, including client records and reflective accounts, contributes to your overall assessment.
