About this course

Free Level 2 Team Leading Course. Study online at your own pace, fitting learning around your existing commitments. This course is open to volunteers and lay leaders within the Exeter Diocese who want to develop their leadership skills and gain a recognised team leading qualification. Before enrolling, you'll complete a short interview and an initial writing task to confirm the course is the right fit. You'll also need to show you can commit around two to three hours of volunteer or lay leadership activity each week during the course. The course takes around 45 hours in total.

Who this course is for

This course if for anyone 19+ who is involved as a volunteer or who has a lay leadership role (licenced or not-yet licenced) in the Exeter Diocese, and who is wanting to develop their leadership skills and gain a Level 2 qualification in Team Leading.

Entry requirements

As this course leads to the NCFE Team Leading (Level 2) Certificate qualification you will be asked to complete a brief interview with the tutor (via Teams/Zoom) and to submit a short piece of writing (as an Initial Skills check) before enrolling on the course in order to ensure this course is right for you. You will need to provide evidence of where you will undertake around 2-3 hours per week volunteer or lay leadership hours within the diocese between January and July 2026.

How you will learn

You'll study online, working through course materials at a pace that suits you. Before you start, you'll have a brief interview with the tutor via Teams or Zoom and submit a short piece of writing as an initial skills check. Assessment is through written assignments based on your leadership experience and the principles covered in the course.
