Free Level 2 Sport Course in Yeovil. Classes run at Yeovil College, full-time Monday to Friday. This is a free sport course focused on outdoor education, running from September 2026 to June 2027. You'll need four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and Maths. The course covers outdoor and adventurous activities, leading activity sessions, and expedition experience. You'll also have the chance to gain additional industry qualifications in kayaking, climbing, and lowland leading, plus work experience at an outdoor activity centre.
Who this course is for
The Sport Foundation Year is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for learners to progress to study at Level 3 in Sport. You will be taught by highly qualified and passionate industry experts. Whether you are interested in progressing to study sport coaching, exercise science or fitness this qualification offers the required level of study in order to progress in your career aspirations within the sport industry.

4 GCSE's at grade 3 and above, including English and Maths. If you fail to meet these entry requirements we recommend Sport Foundation Year (Level 1).
What you will learn
You'll develop knowledge of outdoor and adventurous activities, including climbing, kayaking, and mountain biking.
You'll learn how to plan and lead an outdoor activity session.
You'll gain expedition experience, including multi-day trips to locations such as Dartmoor, the New Forest, and Exmoor.
You'll work toward the Level 2 Assistant Lowland Leaders qualification.
You'll complete a kayaking introduction award and a NICAS Climbing Award Level 1.
You'll undertake work experience at an outdoor activity centre.
You'll build understanding of employment opportunities within the outdoor education sector.
How you will learn
You'll learn through classroom sessions, practical outdoor activities, and work experience placements. Delivery is full-time, Monday to Friday, at the college's main site. Assessment includes practical activity sessions, expedition participation, and unit-based coursework. You'll also take part in trips to climbing centres, paddlesports clubs, and national park expeditions as part of your learning.
