Free Level 2 Site Carpentry Course in Manchester. Classes run at Hopwood Hall College Middleton Campus, full-time during the day. You'll need four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths. If you don't have those grades in English or Maths, you'll study them alongside the course. Over one year, you'll develop the practical carpentry skills that construction employers look for, from first fix to second fix work. You'll learn how to set out and install timber stud partitions and floor systems
You'll develop skills in first fix carpentry, including door frames and linings
You'll practise second fix carpentry, including fitting doors, skirting, and architraves

You'll use and maintain a range of hand tools and power tools safely
You'll apply health and safety practices relevant to construction sites
You'll understand the properties and uses of different timber and timber-based materials
How you will learn
You'll learn through classroom teaching and practical, hands-on sessions using the college's trade facilities. Assessment combines practical tasks, where you demonstrate carpentry skills directly, with written or knowledge-based assessments. You'll be assessed on your ability to carry out carpentry operations to industry standards across both first and second fix work.
