About this course

Free Level 2 Mental Health Awareness Course. Study online at your own pace over 15 weeks. This free mental health awareness course fits around your work and home life, so you don't need to travel to a centre. You'll build a solid understanding of mental health conditions, how they affect people, and how to offer appropriate support. You need basic IT skills to take part, and you must be aged 19 or over as at 31 August in the current academic year. Funding eligibility may also depend on where you live. The centre will confirm this when you enrol.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolement You must have basic IT skills

What you will learn

  • You'll understand what mental health is and how it affects daily life.
  • You'll recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions.
  • You'll learn how stigma and discrimination affect people with mental health conditions.
  • You'll explore the support and treatment options available to people experiencing mental ill health.
  • You'll understand how to respond to someone in mental health distress in a safe and appropriate way.
  • You'll learn about the importance of self-care and maintaining your own mental wellbeing.

How you will learn

You'll study online through written materials and activities you complete in your own time. Assessment is through written assignments or knowledge-based questions that you submit online. There are no exams. You work through the course at your own pace across the 15 weeks, with tutor support available throughout.

What you will need to bring

You'll need basic IT skills and access to a device with an internet connection. Northallerton Adult Learning and Skills Service will confirm anything else you need before you start.
