Who this course is for

The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Make Up Studies is designed to develop your practical skills, creativity and confidence in both makeup application and hairstyling. You will explore a range of professional techniques, from natural and glamorous makeup through to creative and fantasy looks.

Alongside practical skills, you will develop your understanding of skin, anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and professional salon practices.

The course is designed to prepare you for employment within the beauty and makeup industry, including opportunities such as makeup counters, bridal makeup and other entry-level makeup roles.

The following units are mandatory and must be completed to achieve the full qualification

  • Instruction on makeup application
  • The art of Photographic Makeup
  • Create an image based on a theme in the hair and beauty sector
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Apply skin tanning techniques.
  • Shaping and colouring eyebrows.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

How you will learn

You'll learn through hands-on practical sessions in a classroom setting. Assessment includes graded practical observations, an external written exam, and a final synoptic assessment. You'll build a portfolio and complete creative research. An employer will observe and give feedback on at least one assessment, using industry standards. Your final grade can be a Fail, Pass, Merit, or Distinction.
