About this course

Free Level 2 Electrical Installation Course in Barnsley. Classes run full-time at Barnsley College STEM Centre, five days a week during the day. The course takes one year to complete. You'll need four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English, plus maths at grade 4 or above to enrol. You'll study the skills and knowledge needed to fit, wire, and maintain electrical systems in homes and commercial buildings. Students on this course join the Academy programme, which includes career talks, industry visits, and work experience placements. High-performing students may be offered a Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship.

Electricians fit and repair electrical circuits and wiring in people’s homes and businesses. They also install and maintain electrical equipment, instruments and machinery. If you are good with practical work, can follow technical plans and want a varied job, this could be a great career for you. You’ll also need to be well organised and understand the importance of safety regulations. To qualify as an electrician you will need to complete industry-recognised training and qualifications.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3/D or above including English plus maths at grade 4/C or above.
