About this course

Free Level 2 Bricklayer Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train on the job, building skills across real construction projects over 30 months. Bricklayers lay bricks, blocks, and other building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and structures such as chimney stacks. Work spans large commercial developments, new housing builds, extensions, alterations, and restoration projects. A level 2 bricklayer qualification gained this way is recognised by employers across the construction sector.

Who this course is for

Bricklayers lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures e.g. chimney stacks. They might also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects. The range of sites and projects that bricklayers will work on include large commercial developments, new builds in housing, alterations, extensions and restorations. A bricklayer may work one-on-one or on larger jobs where their bricklaying group (gang) may work on a particular section of a building alongside other bricklaying gangs as well as other trades.

  • You'll read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • You'll work effectively as part of a construction team and independently on smaller jobs.

How you will learn

This is an End Point Assessment qualification. You learn through your day-to-day work as a bricklayer, building competence on the job over 30 months. Assessment takes place at the end of your training period and typically includes a practical observation, a knowledge test, and a professional discussion. Your employer supports your development throughout. The Vocational Academy will confirm the full assessment requirements before you start.
