About this course

Free Level 1 Horticulture Course in Iwade. Classes run at Craftworks College The Nook and Willowway, full-time during the day. This level 1 horticulture qualification is for learners who already have some horticulture knowledge or experience. The course runs across 11 months and is built around six hands-on projects, including designing garden features, growing plants, and selling to the public. You'll develop practical skills at The Nook, which has a traditional potager garden and a polytunnel for year-round growing.

Who this course is for

This course is for students who have come into the college with prior Horticulture learning and experience or who have progressed with us from a lower- level Horticulture course.

Entry requirements

Students will need to have some previous Horticulture knowledge. Students will be assessed upon entry to see whether they need any access arrangements to cope with the demands of a level 1 course.

What you will learn

  • You'll plan and design decorative garden features
  • You'll grow plants in a polytunnel and outdoor garden setting
  • You'll develop skills in cultivating and caring for plants through the seasons
  • You'll take part in selling plants to the public
  • You'll build on practical horticulture skills through project-based work
  • You'll gain experience working with industry employers through external work experience

How you will learn

Learning is project-based. You'll work through six projects across the year, each building on the skills and knowledge from the last. Projects lead to a finished product or garden feature. You'll be assessed on entry to confirm the Level 1 course is the right fit and to identify any support you may need. Assessment takes place through practical work and project outcomes in the classroom and garden.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Craftworks College The Nook and Willowway will confirm anything else you need before you start.
