Free Level 1 ESOL Skills for Life Course in Haringey. Daytime classes run at 5E Selby Centre. This esol skills for life course is for anyone living in the UK whose first language isn't English. At Level 1, you'll work on reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English, covering less familiar and more varied situations than earlier levels. You can take all three parts together or take speaking and listening as a standalone qualification. The course runs for 225 hours.
Who this course is for
Level 1 will suit you if you can read, write, speak and listen quite confidently but want to be able to understand and communicate less familiar and more varied information.
There are three parts to the qualification:
Speaking and listening
Writing
Reading.
You can get a qualification in Speaking and listening on its own. Or you can take all three parts as one qualification. The Reading test can either be taken on paper (304) or online (983). Up to two of the three parts can be taken at Level 2.

What you will learn

You'll practise reading a variety of texts, including more complex or unfamiliar material.
You'll improve your writing for different purposes and audiences.
You'll build your ability to understand and communicate varied information in English.
You'll prepare for assessed tests in reading (on paper or online), writing, and speaking and listening.
How you will learn
Classes are held in person at 5E Selby Centre during the daytime. You'll be assessed through formal tests in each part of the qualification: speaking and listening, writing, and reading. The reading test can be taken on paper or online. You can take all three parts together or sit speaking and listening as a standalone assessment. Study is flexible, so your timetable will be arranged with the centre.
