About this course

Level 1 Entry to the Uniformed Services Course in Leeds. Classes run at Leeds City College Quarry Hill Campus, full-time during the day. It is free if you are 16 to 18 years old. If you are 19 or over, fees may apply, though a Learner Loan may be available.

The course covers the knowledge and skills needed to work in public services. You will study topics such as teamwork, physical fitness, citizenship, and the structure of uniformed services. GCSE English and Maths are also included as part of your studies. The course runs over one year.

You will need two GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English and Maths, to start. You finish with the NCFE Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services.

Who this course is for

If you’re in year 11 and are looking to take the next steps towards your career this course is for you. This course prepares learners for the step up to the Level 3 Diploma so that you can progress to university, a police apprenticeship or a higher-level apprenticeship. All learners will also study GCSE English and/or Maths as part of your studies.

Your GCSE English and Maths are assessed through exams. There are no end-of-year exams for the Diploma itself. You will build a portfolio of work as you progress through the course.
