About this course

Free Level 1 Employability Skills Course in Dudley. Classes run at Nova Training Netherton, full-time during the day. This free employability skills course runs for 13 weeks. You'll build the practical skills employers look for, from job searching and interview preparation to communication and independent living. No previous experience is needed. You must be aged 16 to 18 years old to enrol. The course covers techniques that help you get into work, progress in a role, or move into further study.

Who this course is for

Employability Skills qualifications are designed to support an individual successfully gaining a job, progressing in a chosen field, preparing the individual for further study and supporting the development of techniques required for successful independent living.

This qualification is aimed at anyone who wants to live a more independent life, progress in education and/or their employment prospects; get into a job, develop on the job or move onto the next job, as they progress along the career ladder.

Entry requirements

Must be aged 16 to 18 and you don't need any previous experience in the industry already.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop job search techniques, including how to find and apply for vacancies.
  • You'll practise writing CVs and covering letters that get noticed.
  • You'll prepare for interviews, including what to say and how to present yourself.
  • You'll strengthen your communication skills for the workplace.
  • You'll learn how to manage your time and take responsibility at work.
  • You'll explore how to progress in a job or move into further training.
  • You'll develop skills that support independent living day to day.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions at Nova Training Netherton. Assessment is through coursework and practical tasks completed during the course. There are no formal written exams. Your work is assessed against the City and Guilds qualification standards throughout the 13 weeks.
