Free Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery Course in Poole. Classes run full-time at Bournemouth and Poole College of Further Education, with daytime attendance across the week. This one-year course builds practical construction skills alongside maths, English, and employability skills. You'll work across trades including carpentry and joinery, plastering, bricklaying, and property maintenance, plus cover health and safety and construction industry theory. Entry requires GCSEs at grade 2-3 in English and maths, or Functional Skills Level 1.

Construction skills multi-trade is an exciting course aimed at students keen
to explore opportunities within the Construction industry. It provides a solid
foundation in practical, trade-based skills, while also supporting students to
develop essential Maths, English, and employability skills. The course is
focused on helping learners identify and take their next steps towards a
successful career in Construction.
Entry requirements
We require GCSE’s 3-2 in English and maths or Functional Skills at a L1.
Applicants will be invited to attend an interview, where we’ll discuss your behaviour, attendance record, and personal circumstances to ensure the course is the right fit for you.
A strong interest in the construction industry is essential.
What you will learn
You'll develop practical carpentry and joinery skills through hands-on workshop sessions.
You'll learn block walling and how to construct half-brick return corners.
You'll prepare background surfaces and apply finishing coats as part of plastering work.
You'll produce components from moulds.
You'll study health and safety practices for working in construction environments.
You'll gain an overview of the construction industry and trade-specific theory.
You'll build maths, English, and employability skills alongside your practical training.
How you will learn
You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in college workshops, working with tools and materials provided by the centre. Alongside workshop activity, you'll cover theory-based subjects in the classroom. Assessment includes practical tasks and trade-specific theory. You'll also take part in mandatory enrichment activities, some of which may involve home study on non-college days. PPE is supplied and must be worn during assessments.
What you will need to bring
Steel-toe cap boots are required for workshop sessions. A uniform will be provided and discussed at your interview and enrolment. Shorts are not permitted in the workshops. All tools and equipment are provided throughout the course, so there is no need to bring your own.
