About this course

Free Level 1 Art and Design Course in Stamford. Classes run at Stamford College, full-time during the day.

The course runs for 36 weeks. You'll explore drawing, painting, mixed media, and three-dimensional design. Projects cover still life, landscape, and portrait work. You'll also use digital tools to develop your ideas further. To apply, you'll need three GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English or maths, or a Functional Skills Level 1 pass. You'll also need to submit a portfolio or complete a summer assignment before you start.

You'll finish with a Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design and Media, awarded by University of the Arts London.

Who this course is for

This course will provide you with the opportunity to develop your drawing and creative media skills while exploring a range of projects. You will explore the fundamentals of drawing painting and mixed media work as well as 3 dimensional design. The projects will be fur­ther Devel­oped through the use of Creative Media. You will be able to explore using your digital skills to extend your projects. Specific projects will include Still Life Landscape and Portrait Drawing and Painting print making techniques including Lino cutting and stencil printing. Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at grades 2/E includ­ing English or maths or equivalent of Functional Skills Level 1 pass.This course requires an interview/informal chat before a place can be offered and before your interview you will need to submit a portfolio of artwork to demonstrate your artistic strengths. However if you do not have a portfolio of work or examples of your own personal creativity  you will receive a summer assignment to be completed between June and the start of the course

How you will learn

You'll learn through studio-based projects in the classroom. Work is assessed through a portfolio of practical work you build up over the course. Before your place is confirmed, you'll attend an interview and submit a portfolio of artwork. If you don't have a portfolio, you'll be given a summer assignment to complete instead.
