About this course

Free GCSE English Language Course in Stoke-on-Trent. Classes run at Biddulph Sixth Form, full-time during the day. This course is for students who did not achieve a grade 4 at GCSE and are studying English Language alongside their other sixth form subjects. The level 2 GCSE English Language classes run over one year, covering reading, writing, and spoken language. You work toward the grade 4 that many employers and further education courses ask for.

Who this course is for

For GCSE English Language Students who have not achieved GCSE English Language and / or GCSE Maths it is compulsory to continue studying these subjects alongside their new subject choices until a grade 4 at GCSE level is achieved. According to their GCSE results, students will begin and complete a programme of study including resit GCSE options and the use of functional skills to build confidence towards achieving the GCSE grade 4.

What you will learn

How you will learn

You'll study in the classroom alongside your other sixth form subjects. The AQA GCSE (9-1) in English Language is assessed entirely by written exams. There is no coursework. Paper 1 covers fiction reading and creative writing. Paper 2 covers non-fiction reading and transactional writing. Spoken language is assessed separately and does not affect your final grade. Your teachers will use practice papers and timed writing tasks throughout the year to prepare you.
