Free GCSE English Language Course in Bury Saint Edmunds. Classes run at University and Professional Development Centre, with part-time daytime sessions spread over one year. Before you start, you'll have an assessment with a tutor to confirm this is the right level for you. The entry requirement is a Functional Skills Level 2 English qualification, or reaching the minimum standard at assessment. If English is not your first language, the centre will carry out an initial ESOL assessment first. The course covers reading, writing, and spoken language.

You'll write clearly and accurately for different purposes and audiences.
You'll develop your use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
You'll structure extended writing, including narratives and persuasive pieces.
You'll evaluate language and structure in unseen texts.
You'll develop spoken language skills through presentation and discussion.
How you will learn
You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at the centre. Assessment is by written examination; there is no coursework component for AQA GCSE English Language. You'll also complete a spoken language endorsement, which is assessed separately and reported alongside your grade but does not affect it. Your tutor will guide your preparation throughout the year.
