About this course

Free GCSE English Language Course in Benfleet. Evening classes run at USP College Seevic Campus, one evening a week over one year. The course is free if you haven't yet achieved a GCSE grade 4 (C) or above in English Language.

You'll develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The course covers analysing texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, writing imaginative and argumentative pieces, and preparing presentations. Blended learning combines classroom teaching with independent study supported by online resources.

You'll finish with a GCSE in English Language.

Who this course is for

This is a FREE* course for learners aged 19 or over who need to obtain a GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English Language.

The course will give you the opportunity to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. It is designed to prepare you for a wide range of occupations and further study.

You will be introduced to a broad range of activities, tasks and stimulus materials, all designed to provide opportunities to practice the skills necessary to be successful in the final examinations.

You will be required to complete an initial assessment to ensure that this course is an appropriate starting point.

How you will learn

Classes are held in the classroom one evening a week. Your progress is assessed every lesson through informal checks, class tests and mock exams. You'll also complete writing tasks and text responses as part of your coursework. Regular one-to-one sessions with your teacher give you individual feedback and help you review your targets. The college's online learning environment supports your independent study between sessions. The final assessment is two written exam papers.
