Free GCSE English Language Course in Darlington. Evening classes run at Darlington College, part-time over 34 weeks.

The course is free if you don't already hold a grade 4 (C) or above in English. You'll need to have achieved Level 2 Functional Skills English before starting. All applicants complete an initial and diagnostic assessment, and you'll be asked to provide evidence of prior learning.

The course covers reading, writing, spoken language, and grammar. You'll sit a written exam at the end. You'll finish with a GCSE in English Language.

If you have not yet achieved a grade 4 (C) in English GCSE, then this 1-year course gives you the chance to improve your English skills and to sit/re-sit the examination.

Entry requirements

You should have already achieved a Level 2 Functional Skills English. All applicants will complete initial and diagnostic assessment and will be required to produce evidence of prior learning. You will be contacted by a member of the team to arrange initial assessment prior to the next course starting.

How you will learn

You'll study in a classroom at Darlington College on evening sessions. The Pearson Edexcel GCSE is assessed by written examinations. There is no coursework component. You'll sit papers covering reading and writing. Your spoken language is assessed separately and reported alongside your grade, though it does not affect the final grade.
