Free Functional Skills Maths Level 1 in York. Evening classes run at Explore York Library Learning Centre, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm Level 1 is the right starting point, and the centre will use it to plan your learning. The course covers everyday maths skills including working with numbers, fractions, percentages, and measurements. It runs over 33 weeks part-time. This free functional skills maths course is open to anyone without a Level 2 (GCSE grade 4 or above) in Maths.

This course is funded for learners in the York and North Yorkshire area. If you live outside of this area, we recommend contacting your local adult education provider.
What you will learn
You'll work with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions in practical contexts.
You'll calculate percentages and use them in everyday situations.
You'll interpret and use measurements, including length, weight, and capacity.
You'll read and understand charts, tables, and graphs.
You'll solve problems involving money, time, and data.
You'll use basic geometry, including area and perimeter.
How you will learn
You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Explore York Library Learning Centre. Teaching covers both the skills and the reasoning behind them. Assessment is by a written external exam set by City and Guilds. You'll need to pass both a non-calculator and a calculator paper to achieve the qualification.
