About this course

Free Functional Skills English Level 1 in Northallerton. Evening classes run at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll identify the main points and purposes of texts you read.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based and run in the evening. You'll work through reading, writing, speaking, and listening tasks in a group setting. Assessment is through a written exam covering reading and writing, and a separate speaking and listening assessment. Both are set and marked by City and Guilds. You'll have an initial assessment before the course begins to confirm that Functional Skills English Level 1 is the right level for you.
