About this course

Free Entry Level Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You learn while gaining hands-on experience in one of three areas: bicycle mechanics and retail, catering and customer service, or horticulture and market gardening. The course typically takes 8 months and combines practical work experience with an employability skills qualification. There are no entry requirements for 16 to 18 year olds. This entry level skills for employment, training and personal development qualification is awarded by NOCN.

Who this course is for

What you will learn

  • You'll develop practical skills in your chosen work area: bicycle mechanics and retail, catering and customer service, or horticulture and market gardening.
  • You'll build employability skills including communication, teamwork, and working to instructions.
  • You'll learn how to manage your time and take responsibility in a work setting.
  • You'll understand what employers expect from you day to day.
  • You'll practise problem-solving and decision-making in real work situations.
  • You'll develop personal skills such as self-management and planning your own learning.

How you will learn

Learning takes place in a work-based setting. You'll be assessed through practical tasks, observations, and evidence gathered from your day-to-day work activities. A portfolio of evidence is typically used to demonstrate your skills and knowledge across the qualification's units. Assessment is ongoing throughout the 8 months rather than through a single exam.
