About this course

Free Entry Level Functional Skills English Course in Brent. Classes run at First Rung Colindale Centre, part-time during the day. The course covers three areas: Reading, Writing, and Speaking and Listening. You'll build practical English skills for work, further study, and everyday life. Classes run weekly, and the course takes around 70 hours in total. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm Entry Level 3 is the right starting point, and the centre will use it to plan your learning.

Who this course is for

You will learn and put into practise English language skills which will enable you to work and communicate confidently, effectively and independently and ensure you have the skills you need for employment and education.

Our trainers will support the development of your English skills enabling you to gain the most out of your work, education and everyday life.

During the course you will focus on three areas; Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening.

You will attend weekly classroom based workshops where you trainer will support you to prepare for a end of course assessment.

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand everyday texts, including signs, forms, and short documents.
  • You'll write clearly for practical purposes such as notes, messages, and simple letters.
  • You'll speak and listen effectively in everyday conversations and discussions.
  • You'll use English confidently in work-related and real-life situations.
  • You'll practise putting language skills to use independently.

How you will learn

You'll attend weekly classroom-based sessions at First Rung Colindale Centre. Learning is delivered face to face, with trainer support throughout. Assessment covers all three areas of the qualification: Reading, Writing, and Speaking and Listening. Each area is assessed separately, and you'll need to pass all three to achieve the full qualification.
