About this course

Entry Level Construction Skills Course in Cambridge. Classes run at Cambridge Regional College, full-time during the day. To enrol, you'll need GCSEs at grade 1 or above in Maths and English, a good school attendance record, and a genuine interest in construction. The course runs for one year and introduces you to a range of occupations across the construction industry. You'll complete multiple units covering different trades and develop the employability skills that construction employers look for. Fees apply; a concession rate is available for eligible learners.

Who this course is for

Full time, one-year programme. On this course you will need to complete multiple units to gain the qualification. This qualification offers an engaging programme for 16 to 19 and also 19+ who wish to follow a vocationally related course to develop a range of employability skills essential for success in working life. This programme provides a variety of diverse and varied units, enabling students to have an introduction to the work of various occupations in the construction industry.

The course is made up of units relating to practical skills, which includes different trades within the construction industry. Theory units are to include Health and Safety and drawing/planning skills relating to the construction industry. Functional Skills or GCSE maths or English will also form part of the programme, and all learners will be required to study at an appropriate level.

You are expected to supplement College work with personal study at home or in the Learning Resource Centre. In addition to the specialist skills described above, we will help you to develop a range of wider skills that will make you into a well-rounded professional who will be highly valued by employers and universities. During tutorials we will develop your Employability skills, Personal Learning, Social and Community skills, together with your Specialist skills and qualification will give you a distinct advantage when it is time for you to progress to employment or further and higher education. Skills you can gain include;

C V writing Interview techniques Customer service Maths and English skills needed in day to day life Self-study and research Team working to complete projects

Entry requirements

To access this course you will need GCSEs at grade 1 or above in Maths and English, general education and a keen interest in your chosen subject area. In addition, a good school attendance record and report is required.
