About this course

Free Entry Level 2 Functional Skills Maths in Croydon. Classes run at CALAT Central Croydon Centre on weekends, so you can study without giving up your working week.

Student visa holders are not eligible. You'll cover number, measures, and handling data at Entry Level 2. The course runs over 17 weeks part-time.

You'll finish with a Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Entry Level 2.

What are Functional Skills? Functional Skills are recognised GCSE alternative qualifications, with a Functional Skills Level 2 course being equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (C). However, there are some instances where functional skills Level 2 is not considered equivalent, such as for becoming a teacher, so do check before enrolling.

Why do I need Functional Skills? Functional Skills are essential as they equip you with the practical literacy, numeracy, and digital skills required for everyday tasks, employment, and further education. These skills enable better communication, problem-solving, and effective use of technology, making you more competent and confident in your personal and professional lives.

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including counting, ordering, and simple calculations.
  • You'll add, subtract, multiply, and divide using everyday contexts.
  • You'll understand and use simple fractions and percentages.
  • You'll read and use common measures, such as length, weight, and time.
  • You'll interpret simple charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll solve straightforward maths problems in real everyday situations.

How you will learn

You'll study in a classroom at CALAT Central Croydon Centre at weekends. Learning is part-time and tutor-led. You'll complete a written assessment to gain the qualification. Before you start, you'll have an initial assessment to confirm Entry Level 2 is the right level for you.

What you will need to bring

Please bring proof of your right to residence in the UK. This can be a UK birth certificate, a UK or EU passport, or an Indefinite Leave to Remain Resident Permit. CALAT Central Croydon Centre will confirm anything else you need before you start.
