You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in English at Entry Level 2.

Who this course is for

The course will help you to develop confidence and skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. The course activities and materials will link to everyday life and work experiences.

Entry Level courses are delivered in a classroom over 25 weeks. You will be entered for the assessments when you are ready. Entry Level assessments take place in class time.

Level 1 and 2 courses are delivered either in a classroom or online over 26 weeks. The speaking and listening and reading exams take place during the 26 week programme and the writing exam is taken after the final session.

All Level 1 and Level 2 learners on classroom and online courses will be required to attend one of our centres to take all exams.

Functional Skills English qualifications are recognised by employers and a Level 2 qualification, is an equivalent skill level to GCSE English.

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand short texts from everyday life and work.
  • You'll write clearly for simple, practical purposes.
  • You'll speak clearly and listen carefully in straightforward conversations.
  • You'll follow and give simple instructions in spoken English.
  • You'll identify key information in written materials.
  • You'll use correct spelling and punctuation in short pieces of writing.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom-based and run during the day. You'll work through activities linked to real-life and work situations. Assessments take place in class time, and you'll be entered for them when you're ready. There are no timed exams outside the classroom at this entry level.

The centre will provide most materials. Thurmaston the Roundhill Academy will confirm anything else you need before you start.
