About this course

Free Entry Level 1 Functional Skills Maths in Northallerton. Evening classes run at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. The course runs for 18 weeks part-time. You'll build core number skills including working with whole numbers, simple fractions, and everyday maths tasks. This course is for people who want to improve their Maths skills and who currently, do not hold a current Entry Level 1 or higher qualification

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll recognise and use whole numbers in everyday situations.
  • You'll add and subtract using whole numbers.
  • You'll understand simple fractions and what they mean in context.
  • You'll read and interpret basic number information, such as prices and quantities.
  • You'll use maths to solve straightforward practical problems.
  • You'll check your answers and identify simple errors.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service during evening sessions. Learning is practical and task-based, covering the skills set out in the Entry Level 1 specification. Assessment is through a formal test set and marked by City and Guilds. Your tutor will track your progress throughout the course and prepare you for the assessment.
