This Pearson Edexcel qualification covers dance, musical theatre, and the craft of performing. You'll develop practical performance skills alongside an understanding of the industry. The course runs over 11 months and is equivalent in size to 1.5 A Levels. It suits those taking it as a standalone year or as part of a two-year study programme alongside another subject. To join, you'll need a GCSE grade 4 or above, or a Functional Skills Level 2, in both Maths and English.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Performing Arts Practice.

Who this course is for

The Foundation Diploma, equivalent in size to 1.5 A Levels, is for learners looking to study performing arts as a one-year, full-time course and for those wishing to take it alongside another area of contrasting or complementary study, as part of a two-year, full-time study programme. If taken as part of a programme of study that includes other BTEC Nationals or A Levels, it supports progression to higher education. It also supports progression to an Apprenticeship in the performing arts sector or to a further year of study at Level 3.

Entry requirements

Foundation Diploma - For the 540 GLH BTEC programme, all students registered on this programme should have accredited prior learning in both Maths and English (previously achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above or Functional Skill Level 2 in both) The reason behind this is with the Foundation Diploma having an additional 180 GLH required to complete the qualification, students who don’t have to resit Maths and English qualifications additionally would therefore have the time and ability to manage this.
