About this course

CMI Level 3 Coaching and Mentoring Training in Derby. Classes run at Derby College, part-time on Wednesday evenings over 25 weeks. This CMI coaching and mentoring training course is designed for people who are already working in teaching, training, or a vocational role and want to develop their coaching and mentoring skills. You'll cover the core knowledge and practical skills needed to support others in a coaching and mentoring capacity. Entry requires evidence of a Level 2 English qualification and at least a full Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience.

Who this course is for

This qualification is for those who are teaching, coaching or training and/or those who need to be able to coach and mentor individuals in a range of settings including in a training company, FE College, Adult Learning Service or a company’s internal training department. It is also suitable for those who want to diversify into coaching and mentoring on a part-time basis.  This qualification covers the core skills, knowledge and understanding needed to support other learners in a coaching and mentoring capacity.  Learners must be occupationally competent in the vocational area in which they are providing coaching and mentoring.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop the skills to coach and mentor individuals in workplace and training settings.
  • You'll build knowledge of coaching and mentoring models and how to apply them.
  • You'll learn how to plan and structure coaching and mentoring sessions.
  • You'll practise giving feedback effectively to support others' development.
  • You'll understand how to reflect on and evaluate your own coaching and mentoring practice.
  • You'll gain experience of supervising and supporting learners in a real vocational context.

How you will learn

The course runs across 10 classroom-based sessions at Derby College, meeting on Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 8pm. You'll also complete a minimum of 4 hours of coaching and 4 hours of mentoring in your workplace, with supervision and support. Assessment is through work-based evidence and practical demonstration of your coaching and mentoring skills alongside your classroom learning.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Derby College will confirm anything else you need before you start. You will need access to a workplace where you can carry out at least 4 hours of coaching and 4 hours of mentoring with employees as part of the programme.
