Who this course is for

This course is designed for students taking their first steps into employment, and those who are in employment and would like to progress in the workplace by studying part time. The course is also designed to meet employers’ needs. Higher National HTQs are widely recognised by industry and higher education as the principal vocational qualification at Levels 4 and 5 with a high academic content.

The HNC offers students a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning, while allowing for the acquisition of some sector specific skills and knowledge through the specialist units in each pathway. The units in these pathways effectively build underpinning core knowledge while preparing you for more intense subject specialisation at higher levels. You will gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in research, self-study and directed study.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE qualifications at grade A*-C or 9-4 (to include, science, Maths and English) BTEC Level 3 Diploma with MP grade or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma with MPP grade in a Construction/Building services bias. The usual entry requirements for this course are a minimum of 96 UCAS points obtained from level 3 qualifications. English language requirements Students who are non-native English speakers or who have not studied the final two years of school in English but can demonstrate capability
