Who the course is aimed at: The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accountancy or finance. This qualification is suitable for young people who have just left school as well as for adults returning to work after a break or for anyone wishing to change career. The Foundation Certificate is open to those who are working and those who are not currently in employment. However, for the best chance for success, we recommend that students begin their studies with a good standard of English and maths.

Entry requirements

You do not need any formal qualifications to begin studying for the AAT qualification. You will need to have good numeric skills and be able to complete exams and written projects in English.

  • You'll understand how to process payments, receipts, and petty cash.
  • You'll learn how to prepare and reconcile bank statements.
  • You'll understand VAT principles and how to complete basic VAT returns.

  • You'll learn how to produce trial balances and basic financial statements.
  • You'll understand the principles of costing and how costs are classified in a business.

How you will learn

You study through pre-recorded webinars, printed tutorial books, and workbooks delivered to your home. You also get digital access to all your books and a virtual learning campus for additional study materials for 12 months. Tutorial support is available by email for 12 months. Assessment is by AAT computer-based exams, which you sit at an approved AAT examination centre. Exam fees are not included in the course fee.

Study materials are included. You receive four printed tutorial books and four workbooks delivered to your home, plus digital access to all materials. Exam fees are not included, so you will need to budget for these separately. Osborne Training Centre will confirm anything else you need before you start.
