About this course

Teaching Assistant Level 3 Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You study while working or on placement in a school or college. An Advanced Learner Loan may be available to cover the cost if you are 19 or over. The course takes around 18 months and covers specialist support for pupils' learning, including planning and reviewing assessment strategies, bilingual support, special needs support, and reflective practice. You need to be in a relevant role or placement throughout.

Who this course is for

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering, and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice.

Entry requirements

This qualification is aimed at learners working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary, or special schools, as well as colleges.

Learners must be at least 16 years old.

Learners need to be working or be on a practical placement during the taught programme of study in a learning environment (school or college).

What you will learn

  • You'll develop the knowledge and skills needed to support pupils' learning directly in school and college environments.

How you will learn

You learn on the job, applying your skills directly in your school or college placement throughout the programme. Your progress is reviewed against the knowledge and skills set out in the Diploma.
