Who this course is for

This programme has been developed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to support children and young people in a classroom within schools and colleges. The course will develop learners knowledge of legislation, guidance, policies and procedures and how these are promoted in the setting to keep children healthy, safe and secure as well as making sure that the learning environment is inclusive to all children and young people. The learners will research how schools and colleges are structured, how children develop, the transitions they may face and the importance of play and leisure within the learning environment. Learners will develop their skills and knowledge to support positive behaviour, communicate effectively and develop relationships with children and adults. They will gain an understanding of how to promote effective learning environments including creating display boards which will be observed in practice within placement.

Learners will need to obtain a 2-day placement, supporting in a classroom within a school or college with ages 5 years and above. Learners will need to complete an enhanced DBS check.
