Who this course is for

Singing is a core skill for performers working in Musical Theatre. During your training you will work on a wide range of solo and ensemble music. You will receive training in a variety of vocal techniques. The aim is to prepare you to deal safely and confidently with the vocal requirements of the contemporary Musical Theatre canon. The actor is required to understand, interpret and recreate the highly sophisticated physical and psychological patterns of human behaviour, and develop a profound empathy for the life and circumstances of a fellow human being. This forensic skill and insight applies to all forms of acting whether it is for the stage or screen, musical or non-musical. Therefore, to be professionally credible, the student actor must have a systematised and rigorous methodology with which to work, coupled with self-motivation, personal discipline and a wide and passionate curiosity about acting and the related arts. Dance is a key skill for performers working in Musical Theatre. Throughout the course you will study three genres: Jazz, Classical Ballet and Tap. In addition to these subjects Jazz Partnering and Adagio work may also be studied in Years Two and Three by students who have reached an appropriate level in their technical development. There is also the opportunity to study other dance styles and genres; Hip Hop is studied in Years Two and Three for both female and male students and guest teachers visit LTS on a regular basis throughout the year, offering workshops in a variety of dance genres. The course is designed to prepare you for both the technical and performance demands of the industry. You will learn the skills required to audition successfully for Musical Theatre work by gaining strong technique and exploring the artistry within dance. With your continued commitment, energy and focus you will graduate with all the skills needed to gain longevity in your careers.
