Level 5 Teaching Further Education and Skills Course in Poole. Classes run at Bournemouth & Poole College Of Further Education, part-time during the day over 18 months. This teaching further education and skills qualification is designed for people working as teachers or trainers in the post-compulsory sector, or those who are working toward that role. You'll study behaviour management, equality and diversity, curriculum development, and theories of learning. You'll also carry out research into professionalism in education and training. Entry requires a minimum Level 3 qualification in your specialist subject and Level 2 in English and maths.

Who this course is for

The Diploma in Teaching (FE & Skills) course delivered at the college is an ‘in-service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers or trainers in the post compulsory sector (14 years plus). It may be possible for pre-service teachers/ trainers to also complete this qualification, provided they meet the entry requirements. Those not yet formally contracted to work as teachers/trainers may be able to undertake this qualification, provided they have access to 150 hours of teaching and a further 100 hours of other duties, to include assessment, meetings etc. 20 of these hours will need to include some sort of online delivery and a further 20 of the hours should be in either another department or different teaching organisation over the duration of the award. The whole qualification is delivered part time over 18 months and replaces the City & Guilds DET qualification.

Entry requirements

It is a requirement that anyone entering this course will have a minimum Level 3 qualification in their own area of specialism and a level 2 in English & Maths. Applicants are expected to hold a Level 3 qualification in their specialist subject; however, relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative, provided it is supported by a detailed CV. The qualification requires 150 hours of teaching practice and a further 100 hours of related duties, including assessment and meetings. At least 20 hours must take place in a different teaching organisation. Assessment is through observed teaching practice, written assignments, and professional discussion. You'll build a portfolio of evidence over the 18 months.
