About this course

Level 4 Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Leadership and Management in the Early Years Course. Study online at your own pace, fitting learning around your work and personal commitments. This qualification builds on Level 3 SENCO experience and is designed for Early Years practitioners already working in a lead SENCO or SEND-related role who want to take on greater leadership and management responsibilities. The course takes around 120 hours to complete. It covers best practice leadership in SEND settings within private, voluntary, and independent early years environments.

Who this course is for

This qualification is suitable for learners already working as an Early Years practitioner in a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) or Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) related role and who wish to progress to leadership and management roles and responsibilities, leading best practice for their setting.

Learners must be working as an Early Years Practitioner in a lead SENCO or SEND related role, or be in a position where they are able to evidence achievement of specific knowledge and skills required of a lead role.

Entry requirements

Building on the Level 3 Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators in Early Years Settings, this qualification offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and is aimed at Level 3 Early Years practitioners in a private, voluntary or independent setting. The qualification is designed for those already working in a lead SENCO role as an Early Years practitioner and who wish to increase confidence in relation to leadership and management progression.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop your understanding of leadership and management responsibilities within a SEND early years setting.
  • You'll explore strategies for leading best practice in SEND provision across your setting.
  • You'll build knowledge of the SENCO role at a senior level in private, voluntary, and independent settings.
  • You'll examine how to support and guide colleagues in meeting the needs of children with SEND.
  • You'll strengthen your ability to evidence and reflect on your own leadership practice in a SEND context.

How you will learn

You study online, working through course materials at a pace that suits you. Assessment is based on written work that demonstrates your knowledge and practice in your current SEND role. Because this qualification is work-based in nature, you'll draw on your day-to-day experience as a lead SENCO or SEND practitioner as evidence of your learning.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Real Skills Training will confirm anything else you need before you start.
