If you're 19 or over, fees may apply, though a repayable loan may be available. The course runs for 16 weeks and covers the skills and knowledge needed to work as an engineering officer in the Merchant Navy, or to pursue maritime and engineering roles at sea and ashore. Entry requires four GCSEs including English, Maths and Science at grade 4 or above (or equivalent). Sponsoring companies also require you to pass an ENG1 Seafarer Medical examination, which includes a colour-blindness test.

Four GCSEs or Scottish Standard Grades including English, Mathematics and Science - Grades 9-4 (England), 1-4 (Scotland), A-C (Wales) Please be aware that sponsoring companies will require you to pass an ENG1 Seafarer Medical examination which will include testing for colour-blindness.
