What you will learn

  • You'll learn how to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally.
  • You'll learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • You'll learn how to treat a casualty who is choking.
  • You'll learn how to control severe bleeding and manage shock.
  • You'll learn how to recognise and respond to a range of common medical emergencies.
  • You'll learn how to assess an incident scene and prioritise your response.
  • You'll learn how to record and report first aid incidents appropriately.

How you will learn

Learning takes place in the classroom over a single day. You'll take part in practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises, covering CPR, casualty management, and emergency response scenarios. Assessment is through observed practical skills and a short knowledge check. You need to demonstrate competence in the core practical skills to pass.
