Level 3 Electrical Inspection and Testing Course in Derby. Classes run at Derby College, part-time over 12 weeks. This is the City and Guilds 2391-52 qualification, which replaces the former 2394/2395 courses. It covers fundamental electrical theory, initial verification, and periodic inspection and testing. The course runs on Tuesday evenings, so you can fit your electrical inspection and testing classes around existing work or commitments. An interview is required before you start, to confirm the course is the right fit for your experience.

Who this course is for

The new Testing and Inspection City & Guilds 2391-52 Combined Course qualification replaces and improves on the former 2394/2395 course that was previously available to electricians but has since been withdrawn.The City & Guilds 2391-52 course runs over 12 evenings covering fundamental electrical theory, initial verification practical and revision, and periodic inspection practical and revision.

Entry requirements

This course is aimed at students possessing knowledge of the wiring regulations but who have minimal knowledge of inspection and testing.We strongly recommend that you achieve City & Guilds 2382 before embarking on this course, though this is NOT a formal entry requirement.An interview will be required before you commence this course to establish what qualifications and experience you hold so that a decision can be made on whether the course is right for you.

What you will learn

  • You'll study fundamental electrical theory as it applies to inspection and testing.
  • You'll learn the principles of initial verification of electrical installations.
  • You'll practise periodic inspection and testing techniques in practical sessions.
  • You'll understand how to carry out a visual inspection to the required standard.
  • You'll prepare for a two-hour open-book multiple choice exam.
  • You'll complete a practical assessment covering visual inspection, periodic inspection and testing, and a short task.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom-based, running on Tuesday evenings for three hours over 12 weeks. Teaching covers electrical theory, practical verification, and periodic inspection. Assessment has two parts. First, a two-hour open-book online multiple choice exam. Second, a four-hour and twenty-minute practical assessment. The practical is split into three tasks: a 30-minute visual inspection, a two-hour and 30-minute periodic inspection and test, and a further short task.
