About this course

Level 3 Education and Training Course in Pirbright. Classes run at Pirbright Camp, blending online study with daytime sessions at the centre. This is an introductory course for people who are skilled in a work-related area and want to start teaching or training others. You need to be 19 or over, with a Level 3 qualification or relevant experience in the subject you want to teach. The course runs over 12 months on a flexible study basis. It is the first step toward a full teaching or training qualification, not the final one.

Who this course is for

This is an introductory course for people who are skilled and qualified in a work related area and want to learn to teach or train others. Known as a 'Gateway' course, it won't equip you to be a fully qualified teacher or trainer, but it is the first step to accessing higher level courses that will do so.

Entry requirements

You need to be 19 years or over. You should have achieved or be aiming to achieve a qualification at NVQ level 3 and/or have experience in the subject/skill you wish to teach.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand the roles and responsibilities of a teacher or trainer in education and training settings.
  • You'll learn how to plan and deliver a short teaching session to others.
  • You'll explore different ways people learn and how to adapt your approach.
  • You'll practise giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • You'll develop skills in assessing learners and checking their understanding.
  • You'll build awareness of inclusive practice and how to support diverse learners.

How you will learn

Learning is blended, combining online study with daytime sessions at Pirbright Camp. You'll complete a micro-teach, where you plan and deliver a short session to a group and receive feedback on it. Assessment includes written assignments and observation of your teaching practice. There are no formal exams.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Pirbright Camp will confirm anything else you need before you start.
