About this course

Level 3 Access to HE Diploma (Health Professions) Course in Lincoln. Evening classes run at Lincoln College, full-time over 36 weeks. This is an intensive access to HE diploma course designed for adults aged 19 or over who want to apply for health and social care degrees at university. You'll build the academic skills and subject knowledge needed for degree-level study in areas such as adult nursing, paediatric nursing, and other healthcare fields. UK universities recognise the access to HE diploma qualification as a route into undergraduate study.

Who this course is for

The Access to University programme (Access to HE Diploma) is an intensive course for those aged 19 and over, especially for people who are returning to education. It is specifically geared towards a graduate career, and prepares students to study at university level towards future employment in a range of healthcare-related careers. The course aims to help students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to apply for various health / social care degrees, such as Adult Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science or Health and Social Care. Completion of the Access to HP course allows students to gain direct entry to their chosen degree; successful students are able to gain places at UK-wide universities as well as with local providers the University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop academic writing and research skills needed for university-level study.
  • You'll study science and health-related subjects relevant to healthcare degrees.
  • You'll learn how to critically analyse information and construct evidence-based arguments.
  • You'll build knowledge of health and social care concepts that underpin nursing and allied health programmes.
  • You'll practise referencing, essay writing, and presenting ideas clearly in an academic format.
  • You'll complete assignments that mirror the demands of first-year university work.

How you will learn

You'll learn through evening classroom sessions at Lincoln College. Assessment is coursework-based, as is standard for Access to HE Diplomas. You'll complete written assignments and projects throughout the course rather than sitting a final exam. Work is marked against nationally set standards, and your portfolio of assessed work forms the basis of your qualification.
