About this course

Level 2 Teaching Assistant Course. Study online with Kent Adult Education, at your own pace over 30 weeks. This teaching assistant qualification is built around flexible online learning, so you can fit study around work, family, or other commitments. You'll work through tutor-led input, small group sessions, and practical workshops online, building an e-portfolio of evidence as you go. The course covers supporting teaching and learning in schools at a level equivalent to GCSE grade A to C, so assignments require a solid level of written English. Tuition fee concessions are available.

Who this course is for

This is a Level 2 qualification equating to GCSE (grade A-C) and, therefore, assignments will require this level of competence in English. You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions, read handouts/exercises and take part in group discussions.

This Teaching Assistant course will include tutor input plus small group work, tutorials and practical workshops. You will receive guidance in producing an online E-portfolio of evidence that will be submitted for assessment.

Tutors will give feedback on homework assignments as well as classroom activities; tutorials will also be included. The assessment of this course includes two observations of your working practice within the school following which feedback will be given.

Students should expect to spend approximately 5-8 hours a week working on course assignments in addition to the course hours delivered via Zoom, plus the hours in your school placement throughout the course. You are required to attend a minimum 90% of the course.

A paid or voluntary school placement is essential for a minimum of one day a week in a primary, secondary or special educational setting. The school placement, which is organised by the student, needs to be in place before the start date of the course. Students also need to have an enhanced DBS check. Students should initially contact their placement school to discuss local DBS arrangements. Please note that this may incur an additional cost that is not included in the advertised course fee.
